Python for Beginners: Write Your First Programs

A free, beginner-friendly introduction to Python: run your first code, work with variables, make decisions, repeat actions with loops, use lists and functions, and finish with a small working project.

Python for Beginners: Write Your First Programs
Python is one of the most popular programming languages in the world. It is used for websites, data analysis, automation, artificial intelligence and much more, and its simple, readable style makes it a very good first language.

This free course takes you from zero to writing small, useful programs. You will learn how to run Python, store information in variables, make decisions with if statements, repeat tasks with loops, organise data in lists and reuse code with functions. You will finish by building a small project of your own.

Finish all six lessons and pass the short final quiz to earn a certificate.
No programming experience needed. You will need a computer, or an online Python editor in your browser, and the patience to try the examples yourself.
